Sina Primary Health USA’s goal is to improve primary healthcare in Pakistan for the country’s most vulnerable. We raise funds and awareness in America. Our implementing partner, SINA HealthSystems Foundation in Pakistan, runs one of the most respected primary-care networks on the ground in Karachi. Over 90% of patients are women and children.
In 1998, Dr. Asif Ali Imam — a Dow Medical College graduate who spent two decades practicing in the United States — returned to Karachi and opened a small clinic in Baldia Town, one of the city’s largest informal settlements. The idea was simple and radical: bring qualified family physicians, real diagnostics, and honest medicine to families the health system had written off.
Today that one clinic is a network of 40, named for Ibn Sina — the physician-philosopher whose thousand-year-old vision of holistic healing the mission carries forward. SINA now serves areas that are home to nearly half of Karachi’s population, treating over 1.2 million patients a year.
Every SINA clinic is a full primary-care home, not a dispensary. Donors fund the whole circle of care:
Consultations with qualified family physicians, chronic disease management, and treatment of infectious and non-infectious illness.
On-site labs (2M tests performed), ultrasound, and free or subsidized medicines through clinic pharmacy banks.
Antenatal and postnatal care, reproductive health, child nutrition programs, and 100,000 childhood immunizations a year.
Screening at every visit and dedicated counselors — rare anywhere in primary care, rarer still in low-income Karachi.
A managed “circle of care” moves complex cases to partner hospitals — Indus Hospital, Aga Khan University — and back for follow-up.
An in-house research department publishing in BMJ journals, plus continuous physician training, BLS programs, and mentoring.
Incorporated in California and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity, Sina Primary Health exists so American donors can support this work simply, tax-efficiently, and with full U.S.-law compliance. Our board members serve as volunteers.
